Is Rhodium Plating Permanent?
The short answer is no.
When customers bring us a white gold ring for re-plating, one of the first questions they ask is how long it will last. The honest answer is that it ultimately depends on how your ring is worn.
Rhodium plating is a maintenance service, not a permanent finish. Over time, the thin layer of rhodium gradually wears away with everyday use, especially on rings that are worn every day.
In our experience, most white gold rings need to be re-plated somewhere between 6 and 18 months. Someone who wears their ring constantly, works with their hands, or frequently uses cleaning products may notice the finish wearing sooner. Jewelry that's worn only occasionally can often go much longer before it needs to be re-plated.
